National Boat Show 2005 – for all outdoor enthusiasts

The original Solly Angler‘s Corner was established in Booysens, Johannesburg, and now has branches in Fourways, Pretoria, Nelspruit and Vereeniging. But you don‘t need to go that far to find the latest fly-fishing gear and the widest range of equipment for watersport, adventure and outdoor enthusiasts.

You can see it all under one roof at the National Boat Show 2005, running from 26-28 August at the Coca-Cola Dome, Randburg.

Solly‘s Angler‘s Corner will be exhibiting the G Loomis CrossCurrent saltwater fly rods at the event. Creating fly rods for something as demanding as saltwater fly-fishing requires “a lot of dreaming and a lot of fishing”, says the manufacturers. They claim that new CrossCurrent is the “most advanced and uniquely different series of fly rods ever for fishing where currents converge, edges are created and fish and fly meet”.

Solly‘s will also be exhibiting Sage fly-fishing tackle, including rods with a progressive power curve and extremely high strength-to-weight ratio, making it easy for anglers of all abilities to launch a superior cast.

Whether you‘re in the market for a new rod or fly, gearing up for deep sea fishing, looking to purchase a rubber duck or luxury speedboat, getting ready for your next outdoor adventure or planning your year-end holiday, you‘ll find what you‘re looking for at the National Boat Show.

Novas Marine will be showcasing its Nova Sport Fisher 220, in four different models. From a version with fly-bridge and riggers to an express soft-top model these will appeal to the full gamut of offshore boating enthusiasts. Novas Marine will also have on display items such as fish bags, safety glass windows, rod holders, bait stations, cabin lights, skipper chairs and trailers.

Attending the show for the third time, Stealth Performance Products, will be hosting a large range of new and exciting designs in fishing skis and cruising surf skis suitable for novices and experienced paddlers.

If that sounds too much like hard work, step up to the Cutwater Marine classic mahogany speedboats on show. Taking you back in time, these elegant craft are designed to offer the perfect balance between innovative new technologies and old world craftsmanship.

If you are still unsure of where to go for your year-end vacation, bear in mind that Barra Lodge have three lodges in Mozambique. The four-star Flamingo Bay Water Lodge features chalets on stilts in the crystal waters of Flamingo Bay. The three-star Barra Lodge is situated on secluded, unspoilt beaches, bordered by the Inhambane estuary and is equipped with a PADI dive centre. Pomene Lodge is a rustic fishing and diving retreat with land enclosed by ocean and a pristine mangrove estuary.

The National Boat Show supports the National Sea Rescue Institute‘s (NSRI) efforts in raising public awareness around water safety, and the NSRI will be present at the show to offer expert tips and advice on how to ensure safety at sea and on inland waters.

Competition opportunities are legion with the organisers giving away R350 000 in prizes, including a Viking Velocity speedboat powered by a Mariner motor, complete with trailer and accessories, sponsored by Waterworld, in conjunction with SABC 3 Car Torque and Car Magazine.

Heidi Warricker, MD of event organiser, Biz Events, says that nowhere else will visitors find such a comprehensive display of boating and watersports products. “With more than 150 exhibitors, visitors to the 2005 National Boat Show will be exposed not only to the newest boats and equipment available on the continent, but will also have opportunity of comparing different products, and selecting those most suited to their lifestyle and budget.”
